JAMIE HAINES, PRINCIPAL

I was born and raised in this great Yuma community and attended Crane Schools and Cibola High School. I earned my bachelor's degree in animal science from the University of Arizona (Bear Down!) and my master’s degree in elementary education from Northern Arizona University. I have been a member of the Crane district for the past twenty-one years. I have taught 2nd and 5th grade as well as middle school math. The two years prior to becoming the Principal of GSA, I was the Professional Development Coach at H.L. Suverkrup. It is an honor to have been given the opportunity to open and lead Gowan Science Academy. #gatorsareamazing

WHAT I BELIEVE

It's all about trust! The absolute most important element of any school is trust. A culture must be built that promotes trust with all members of the school community. Students must trust all adults on campus, they must trust that their teachers care about them and they must trust that they are safe on campus. Parent trust in the school system is critical. Lines of communication must be open, so parents are comfortable reaching out to the school with any concerns, problems or suggestions. Parents must trust that the adults in the school will listen to them and provide a safe environment for their child. Teachers must trust fellow teachers and administration (both school and central office). Teachers must be trusted to take risks in their lessons (even if they don't work the first time). A growth mindset should be fostered on campus and modeled by students, teachers and administration.
