Gowan Science Academy At Gowan Science Academy, we provide a challenging, inquiry-based Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum designed to maximize each student’s potential and help them thrive in a global community. Our fast-paced, rigorous program serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade and is open to all Yuma County residents.
We believe parent participation is essential to student success and strongly encourage active involvement from every family.
Learning Happens Everywhere We’ve worked hard to create an environment that offers students opportunities to learn in ways that feel natural and engaging. While we have traditional classrooms, we often “break the mold” and encourage learning to happen anywhere curiosity arises.
Exploring Our Community Meaningful, real-world learning extends beyond the classroom. Each grade level participates in at least one field trip per quarter, giving students the chance to connect classroom lessons to hands-on experiences in our community and beyond.
Some examples include:
Wetland Parks – studying native insects Harrison Farms – learning how vegetables are grown locally Kartchner Caverns (Benson, AZ) – exploring land formations Biosphere 2 (Tucson, AZ) – studying biomes …and many more!
School Visits and Tours Parents of current and prospective students are welcome to visit, tour, and observe our classrooms. All visitors must follow the school’s procedures for scheduling visits, tours, or observations. For the health and safety of our students and staff, the District may limit or discontinue visits if necessary.
District and school offices will be closed during the 2025 Fall Intersession from October 13-17, 2025. The Crane Nutrition Dept. will be providing free meals during the break. Read the full story for meal sites and times.
At Gowan Science Academy, rigorous learning happens through exploration, collaboration, and application. Using an integrated approach focusing on science and engineering, we develop critical thinking through discussion, evaluation, and real-world problem-solving in an inclusive and supportive environment.
